After Fr. Pun’s retirement, the Rev. Fran Toy served as Interim, and Fr. Don Fox succeeded her as Long Term Interim, and was subsequently elected as Rector in 1988.  Fr. Fox did not speak Chinese but had a very successful ministry by using interpreters and Chinese speaking lay readers.  During his tenure, a successful fund-raising campaign enabled the building of a new chapel.  The building was dedicated in 1994.  It was a 1.2 million dollars project.  Members of the congregation, old-time members, and friends of True Sunshine made generous contributions fully to fund the project.  The new chapel provided a spiritual space, allowing other existing spaces for use as a parish-hall, meeting rooms and offices.  After nine years of ministry at True Sunshine, Fr. Fox resigned in order to become the Night Minister of the San Francisco Night Ministry.  Fr. Jim Hargis served as the interim for two years, after which he left to take the position of rector of a congregation in Hawaii.  The Rev. Mary Atwood was then the interim for about a year.

The search for a Cantonese-speaking priest continued during the tenure of the interim priests.  Finally, Fr. Franco Kwan answered the call from New York.  He arrived at True Sunshine and his first celebration was on Palm Sunday, 1999.   In addition to his having had many years’ experience as a parish priest, he has a rich background in serving people of various ethnic groups, social work, and community service.
